Is it free to take part in The First 20 Minutes?

Yes!

How long should my full play be?

Your full length play should be between 60-90minutes long. If your play is shortlisted for The First 20 Minutes, we will ask you for the full length play. If you cannot produce this, your play will removed from the short list. Currently do not accept short plays.

When will I hear back?

We aim to get back to you within 3 months of receiving your submission. At present we are not able to give detailed feedback on rejected submissions. We do offer a script consultancy service for a fee. Click here for more info.

Can I use my own director?

We have a director database however if the writer has a director in mind we  do not object providing we are told in good time and the director sends their CV to us.

Can I use my own actors?

We have an actor database, if you have actors you would like to use they would be welcome to audition. If we already know those actors and feel they would be suitable we may cast them without an audition.

Where do the events take place?

London theatre venues, we often use Soho Theatre and The Pleasance.

Where will the play be produced if it wins and for how long?

The location depends on the type of play that wins. We would work with the winning writer on their play for 8-12 months to get it to the highest quality before producing it in a venue that seats a minimum of 80. As we are an unfunded independent company we cannot promise a long run. Ideally a minimum of three nights and a maximum of ten nights  in a venue that seats a mimum of 80-150 is what we aim for.
