The Final Stage

Do you like new plays? Fancy yourself as a bit of a theatre critic?

Writer’s Avenue have been running new writing events throughout the year in the search to commission a play from a fresh new writer. We are now at the final stage where the finalist writers will compete to have their play produced.

The first twenty minutes of the best received plays from 2010 will be performed together. A top industry panel will score each play and YOU will vote for the play we produce in 2012!!!

THE OTHER ROOF

Written by Clare Shaw

Directed by June Trask

Andy is on the roof, about to jump off, but his suicide is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Bill who tries to stop him.... but only because he wants the use of the roof for himself. If the roof becomes known as a spot for jumpers, it will be shut off and Bill will lose his space for singing opera. It is singing opera which gives Bill’s life meaning. Andy, in contrast, carries the burden of guilt which has led him to his despair. Will Andy jump? This dark comedy is a take on Camus’ Myth of Sisyphus which asks ‘Is life worth living?’
